As a data scientist and activist, I translate spreadsheets into stories and political uncertainty into poetry. Deeply moved by community resistance against repressive regimes, I pursued ethnographic research and data analysis to amplify these stories. Past research projects were supported by UNICEF, Open Society Foundation, and Ford Foundation.
In 2014, a project I created was awarded the Bronze Prize from Making All Voices Count at the Global Innovation Summit. In 2016, as a Ford Foundation/Media Democracy Fund TechXchange, I carried out a national study on pretrial risk assessment algorithms to expose the bias and transparency issues inherent in many of these tools.. I have facilitated workshops and webinars at MozFest, Data on Purpose, SRCCON:POWER, and Harvard Kennedy School's Data & Donuts among other events. Today, I am a contributor, facilitator, and advisor for accountable technology.
